b-box 2: IPTV and internet out through a single Homeplug?

Hello all

First post here. Scot living in Belgium, so apologies for the post in English.

I've been a belgacom customer for 3 or so years, and have recently moved into a house. The layout means that cabling between the b-box 2 and the TV decoder isn't an option, so I've been looking into Homeplugs as a solution.

The floors are concrete, so wifi reception upstairs is nonexistent in places, so I've been looking at Homeplugs with wifi for that too.

To avoid having to have two separate Homeplug sets in operation, I was wondering if it's possible to get the IPTV and internet signals out of the router via a single port? I see that certain Homeplugs (e.g. those made by Billion) are able to carry more than one source.

The default set-up with the B-box2 is that Internet and IPTV are separated networks. Internet on LAN1 + 2, IPTV on LAN 3 + 4.
In this case you need 2 sets of homeplugs. This is called "briged mode" (as IPTV is "bridged" to the TV VLAN30).

However, there is an option to set-up your B-box2 in operating mode "fully routed"
In this set-up, you can connect all Belgacom TV decoders to your home network. The settopboxes will receive an IP adress in the home network (192.168.1.64, 192.168.1.65, etc), and will be "routed" tot the TV VLAN
In this case, you only need 1 set of homeplugs (and a switch if you need more devices connected to the homeplug).

Please note that some customers have reported issues with a b-box2 in fully routed mode (nPVR not working properly)

A more suitable (and stable) solution is to use a b-box3, as the default set-up for a b-box3 is "IPTV fully routed".

I'm surprised that you did not receive a b-box3, which should nowadays be the standard modem for new subscriptions.

I simply did a home move with Belgacom, keeping existing number and equipment. A b-box 3 would have been good though.

Would the FritzBox be another solution? Or are tv and Internet still on separate networks there as well?

When you speak about a switch, where would that fit in the wiring setup? Would it be: WAN > b-box 2 > Switch > Homeplug 1 // Homeplug 2 > TV decoder // Homeplug 3 (wifi enabled) > PC ?

Geen probleem. They'd rather put the money towards salaries / perks for the management and dividends for the "shareholders" than put it towards b-box 3s for loyal customers forking out funny money per month for the services.

Not really.
The FritzBox is simulating the B-box2 setup with separate networks.

Switch is not needed in above setup - just if you need more than 1 PC wired behind Homeplug 3.

there are also homeplugs with more than one UTP connector output e.g. devolo-dlan-500-av-(wireless)
