Ben ook 'n beetje overijverig vandaag, maar heb 37 vragen gevonden die vele (niet)Kiss eigenaars zich afvragen:
1: When will the DP-6xx series be available?
DP600 should be available between Spetember and October 2004.
After that, the DP-608, DP-678 with DvD-Recorder and even after that
we will release the DP-688 with Recorder, Radiotuner and 5.1 amplifier.
2: When will the DP-558 finally hit the market?
End of April!
3: Can the DP-558 record and play at the same time?
No!
4: Will the DP-558, 568, 678, 688 have something like EPG ot TVTV?
DP-5589 and DP-568 not, but probably the DP-678 and 688.
For the other players, it might be possible in future firmware updates.
5: Will the DP-6xx series be able to play files bigger then 2GB?
Yes, no longer there will be a 2GB limit and also no 128GB hdd limit no more.
6: Will the DP-6xx series support additional containers like OGG and Matroska?
Matroska, no.
OGM, maybe!
As one can burn complete menu's to the disc with the DP-6xx series one does not need MTK.
7: Why does current players with recent firmware no longer plau DivX3.11 with MP3 sound over SPDIF?
It's a bug that should be fixed.
8: Will the DP-5xx series, thru firmware updates be able to play WMV files?
No!
9 : What do think about TinyStocks?
Very good! KiSS is happy about every private project that enhances the KISS
players except for the MV removal.
10: When will have web video?
KiSS is still looking for a provider for the necessary bandwidth.
For the 500 series, it probably won't be done anymore since Mpeg4 is not really
a good basis since the bit rate can't be handled in a flexible manor.
Web Video will be realized with WMA , since WMA can be adjusted for every user
depending on the bandwidth they have. With Mpeg4, only customers with 1MB
Down Speed could use Web Video.
11: Will KiSS release players with bigger hdd's?
Yes, the DP-612 will contain a 120 GB HDD and maybe also a DP-616 with 160 GB.
12: Which decoder chip will the Dp-558 and DP-568 have?
Sigma 8550 as all the other 500 series.
13: What happens if one would get a power failure during updates?
For a partial update, it would not cause a problem.
With a Full Update it will cause a problem, when the power failure drops
exactly at the time the boot loader is being flashed.
14: Will there soon be a Timer again during playback of SVCD?
Yes. It was an absolute clear "yes".
15: Will the DP-6xx series support GMC?
Yes. Also here absolute clearly, YES!
16: Will their also be an DP-16xx range against DP-6xx series?
Not in our current plans since the MainBoard from DP-6xx series
is not possible for now.
17: What do you think about the Firmware Enhancements (modifications)?
It's ok, but please, no MV removals...
That's the only reason KiSS is not releasing the Firmware to Open Source.
18: When will we be able to freely choose our Web Radio Portal?
Probably in the next FW update, will however surely come in the near future.
19: What do you think about the Game Contest?
Good Idea, we do support it officially.
First three prizes are offered by KiSS...
20: Will the DP-600 series be able to play OGG audio in AVI files?
We should go from the fact that it will be.
21: Which operating system will the Dp-6xx series use?
µcLinux
22: How much RAM will the DP-6xx series have?
All 600 models will have 64 MB Ram.
23: Which Host Processing unit will be used in the DP-600 series along with the Sigma?
Embedded ARM7, but with 240 Mhz.
24: Will Mpeg4 with WMA2 or DivX audio be supported?
Yes, as off the DP-600.
25: Will (.MKT) be supported?
No, it's not necessary since as off the DP-600, menu's are supported on CD.
26: Will multiple subtitles be supported?
Yes, it should already be possible now...
27: Will ASF be supported?
Normally the DP-500 can already support ASF, but ASF is a real old format and
we don't feel committed to support it, it will only lead to other problems.
28: Will there ever be a Transcoding Application for the players?
PC-Link can already do this in a very small interpretation but it will not be
enhanced, since with the DP-6xx series, it will no longer be necessary.
The DP-6xx will be powerful enough to play any existing format or to adjust anything itself.
29: Will Real Video be supported in Video on Demand?
Yes, it will be realised with WMV however, Real Video will come later.
30: Will the DP-600 series have a DVI connector?
Yes!
31: Will HighMat be supported?
Yes
32: Will they have an analog 5.1 Output connector?
Yes
33: Will there be a SCART bypass?
All recorders will have that.
34: Will MP4 data format be supported?
Yes
35: Wil DP-600 series support SACD and DvD Audio?
DvD Audio, yes.
SACD requires too many additional hardware for quality and in thet view it's too expensive.
36: Maybe just ask, would you advice to wait for DP-568/6xx and not buy DP-558?
Depends on what the customer wants to have.
The DP-568 will be more expensive then the DP-558 and they have different specs
and capabilities.
The DP-558 has a very good MPEG2 encoder that delivers superb quality.
The DP-568 will have a very good quality in Mpeg4 but not such a good quality
with Mpeg2 as with the DP-558.
37: What's happening with the first HDD recorder with DvD-burner?
As off with DP-678, dvd burner is implemented.
En dan nu de ideale opstelling voor zo'n Kiss DP-600 -> HD-WMV9 video + 130 cm Plasma TV'je
