Dear members,
I have a Fiber XS contract with EDPNet since february 2024.
Here is the current current setup of my home :
Passive splitter on last level (2nd level) > ONT > BBox3+ > POE 2.5GB Switch > POE APs for levels 0,1 & 2.
I would like to adapt my network infrastructure for various reasons (cable management, power consumption and future upgrade of my current contract).
So, the plan is to get both the Proximus ONT and BBox3+ replaced by a single wired fiber modem router.
I was considering the TP-Link ER7406 since it has a SFP WAN port which is "glasvezel compatibel" and VLANs seems to be quite easy to operate as a prosumer product (from what I saw on the TP Link online emulator, at least).
Of course, since EDPNet uses GPON network with their Fiber XS contract, some of you might encourage me to buy a Fritzbox 5590 International version and call it a day.
But it's more expensive and I don't need the WIFI function since I already have deported WIFI APs through my POE switch.
Also, I don't care about these old DECT and Zigbee technologies and VLANs seems more difficult to operate as well.
So, here are my questions :
"Since AVM sells a separate GPON SFP Module for a decent price (around 25€), will it be compatible with my router ?"
"Would it be better to buy the same module from TP-Link ?"
"Is it safe to say that any GPON SFP module will work ?"
"Will EDPNet agree to register my TP-Link Router (I know you need to call them to register the AVM one, but I don't know for other brands) ?
"Does the green fiber cable need to be replaced as well if I am staying on Proximus GPON network (see picture attached) ?
Thank in advance to all of you.
Best regards,
Arnaud
Are GPON SFP modules all equal towards routers SFP input ?

We have "modem freedom" since November, henc nobody can force you to use a B-box, FritzBox, or whatsoever ... it's completely up to you ...NoNoRoBo schreef: 2 weken geledenOf course, since EDPNet uses GPON network with their Fiber XS contract, some of you might encourage me to buy a Fritzbox 5590 International version and call it a day.

The Fritz!Box has a built-in modem, the Fritz!GPON SFP Module only acts as a media converter and not as a fiber modem
It does not matter, as long you buy a GPON SFP Module with built-in modem (ONT), also known as a "GPON ONU SFP Module"
The TP-Link GPON ONU SFP might be the best choice to guarantee compatibility with your TP-Link router?
They are legally obliged to do so. At the end, it is not their choice, they just register your modem in the Proximus tool they have access to.NoNoRoBo schreef: 2 weken geledenWill EDPNet agree to register my TP-Link Router (I know you need to call them to register the AVM one, but I don't know for other brands).
This depends which connector you need at the modem side.NoNoRoBo schreef: 2 weken geledenDoes the green fiber cable need to be replaced as well if I am staying on Proximus GPON network
The Proximus green/green cable fits on the AVM GPON module, for the AVM XGS-PON you need a green/blue cable.
If you buy the TP-Link GPON ONU SFP Module, you will need to check with TP-Link which connector you need.

Small update :
TP-Link did suggest me their XM60A...
I did send a message to the vendor to make sure there is a ModemID mentionned on it so I can get it activated by the Proximus parent network.
Thankx Again and to be continued !

The TP-Link XM60A will have a modem-ID starting with "TPLG" ....

The fiber connector is a SC/APC (big green one), the same as used the Proximus ONT.
