Hi all
Sorry for message in English. I am the new client of EDP Net, I moved from Proximus as I was very annoyed with constant need to buy 30-40 free volume packs per month. Ans yes with the current promotion the price difference is not small, I will save 20 EUR/month...
I was told that after i switch to EDP Net, I would go back to provisioning profile and it will take a while to get the speed back. However, after the visit of technician and move of my VDSL port to EDPNet, i kept 85/15 profile (and I am happy about that). However, the upload speed is still stuck to the same value I had with Proximus, somewhere between 5 and 6 Mbit/sec. I called EDPNet and I was told that in few days they will fix the issue, but I am curios why is this happening and what is causing the problem? Is my port somehow still linked to Proximus and still have their ridiculous limits?

Was this speedtest done wired, directly connected to the modem/router? If not, do it as stated, wireless can mess up a speedtest.
Let me explain some basic VDSL stuff.
80/15 is the speed at which your modem is communicating with the street cabinet. The so called "sync".
Most ISP's limit this speed on a BAS (Broadband Access Server) where a profile according to the subscription.
EDPnet does not limit the attainable speed, but allows you to make full use of the sync-speed.
However, one of two thing may have gone wrong:
-Somehow you got stuk with a "cap" on your upload on EDPnet's BAS, but they should have fixed that by now.
-They do not have enough bandwith on the street cabinet you are connected to. EDPnet has to rent this bandwith from Proximus. EDPnet will increase it if this is the case, but it can take some time.(the few days they speak of)

People from EDPNet fixed the issue, whatever it was. I am now on 50/10 profile (hopefully until DLM kicks in) but I get full upload speed, which is actually what matters most for me.
I am only 2 days client of EDPNet and I am very happy with how they handled the issue. There was a single person assigned on the case, who did the follow up via phone and email and quickly resolved the issue, in less than 24 hours. If i compare that with Proximus where I never managed to talk to the same person 2 times, where they never call back when they promise, it is day and night difference...

Problem solved, apparently reason (1). This happens sometimes when a former Proximus line gets swapped to EDPNet ...serialchiller schreef:-Somehow you got stuk with a "cap" on your upload on EDPnet's BAS, but they should have fixed that by now.

The bandwith issue can never be a reason for a reduced upload, because the bandwith that EDPnet needs to buy from Proximus is always symmetrical (e.g. 70/70) ...

It is really pity that there is no way to increase upload speed, especially knowing that EDP has lot of 'wasted' upload bandwidth that they need to buy and can not give to the clients.
Right now what i see in my FritzBox DSL page is this:
Receive direction Send direction
Max. DSLAM throughput kbit/s 50000 10000
Min. DSLAM throughput kbit/s 14568 0
Attainable throughput kbit/s 96751 14307
Current throughput kbit/s 49997 9998
Latency fast fast
Impulse noise protection 32 42
G.INP on on
Signal-to-noise ratio dB 19 9
Bitswap on on
Line attenuation dB 14 21
Profile 17a
G.Vector full full
Carrier record B43 B43
I suppose at some point i will get back 85/15 profile that I had with proximus as attainable throughput should allow that.
But when i look at signal/noise ratio, it seems strange that upload value is so much lower than in download direction. Same is valid for the attenuation. I know that the theoretical maximum for the upload is right now 20 mbit/sec. Is there anything I could do to improve the situation wit upload and sometimes somehow get to the x/20 profile? I connected fritzbox to the wall outlet with the short cable provided by proximus that came with bbox 3, the wall box is installed at the place where telecom cable enters the house so I think on my side there is nothing much i can do. I notices actually improvement in attainable throughput speed when i moved modem close to the wall outlet, before i had 20 m cable and attainable upload speed went from +-85000 to +- 95000

That is is not strange, the SNR is a measure of the "margin" you have to increase speed.vladojko schreef:But when i look at signal/noise ratio, it seems strange that upload value is so much lower than in download direction
The margin on upload is much smaller (current 10.000 versus attainable 14.000), than the margin on download (50.000 current versus 97.000 attainable).
Or in other words: your line has still room for a higher download (19dB), but not so much for a higher upload (9dB).
Unfortunately, nothing you (or even EDPNet) can do about it.vladojko schreef:Is there anything I could do to improve the situation wit upload and sometimes somehow get to the x/20 profile?
Proximus' DLM process is working with fixed profiles, both for upload (10/15/20) and for download (50/70/85/100).
- - your attainable throughput (upload) does not allow for the 15 mbps profile, hence you will stick with 10 mbps.
- your attainable throughput (dwonload) does not allow for the 100 mbps profile, hence you will stick with 85 mbps.
If Proximus would not impose the fixed profiles, your line would sync at 96/14, with a SNR of 6dB, both for upload or download.
