scarlet feedback wanted for Limburg.

Hi all,

Sorry, my Dutch is just not good enough to post yet.
British citizen here, we are currently in Limburg, Belgium, with Dommel.

I see scarlet offer higher speeds then what we can get with Dommel in my area, and its even cheaper...
The max speeds we get with Dommel is 512kb/4mb, we are in the sticks! ( forest )

If some of you UB users would be kind enough to answer a few Q's?
If anyone in Limburg area has had or is with Scarlet, do they meet the speeds they say they do? 1mb/12mb?
Or if anyone else could please give us feedback on Scarlets services and up-time? would be greatly appreciated!

Dommel have been very good with up-time, but speeds are lacking.

Thanks very much in advance!

This reflects your line attenuation and you won't have any better with either other ISP.
Moreover there are plenty of complaints about Scarlet services.
They rarely deliver what you're expecting and their helpdesk ... s****.

Nice to see a fellow countryman. Anyways no i don't think scarlet will be able to deliver those speeds as u are most likely too far from the DSLAM. The best you can do is try find out if VDSL2 is available in your area and if it is i'd order scarlet one which is the vsdl2 internet, digital tv and a landline. If you don't want all that then you could either take a look at EDPnet or belgacom which both offer VDSL2 internet without any pack. Hope you get it sorted out

And what's wrong with Dommel?
Also Dommel does offer VDSL2 connections (called speedconnect).

Forgot about that one lol. Anyways he could also go for cable internet. Considering he could
get his full speeds there. Although telenet isnt the cheapest.

Please post your line statistics, so we can suggest it's dommel that gives you low speed, or it's the distance from the DSLAM.
It's difficult to make a statement this way.

Worth checking (VDSL): http://www.edpnet.be/en/Residential

You can also get that Scarlet One package without the digital tv which will reduce the monthly cost by 10 euros. Brits most likely have a satellite dish pointed at 28.2E anyway :-D

Fair enough but in that case scarlet isn't the cheapest anymore tho. Well from my point of view anyways. I'd rather send him to edpnet then or some other isp that offers vdsl.

Thx for all the help so far,
Shout out to Callum! ;)

Dommel stated they can not give me faster speeds then 512kb/4mb, to me it seems like im capped @ 4mb...
they say the line would become unreliable @ faster speeds.

As some of you pointed out, i could get the same result with any ISP, so perhaps im doomed to 4mb?
@ Honda4life, iv no idea how to check my phone line for statistics, but the adsl signal is good & clean, from what dommels tech dep. said.
@ RL you are correct, we have our TV sorted! ;-)

Dommel is 35e a month for 4mb, seems a bit dear for that speed.

Thx again!

Okay you can check out your line attentuation by going into ur router settings. Which would normally be http://192.168.1.1
And it should show them in Db. Anyways considering you're paying 35 euro's for a messed up adsl line i'd suggest you to just go for
vdsl2. A decent vdsl2 line costs around 35 euro's aswell. You'll have to check the availability tho. http://www.belgacomtv.be/#request=home Go to this site and click on 'kijk of het bij u beschikbaar is' and then fill in your adress. If it tells you you can connect two TV's in HD then ur good to go. I'd suggest you to go with edpnet : http://www.edpnet.be/en/Residential/Int ... /VDSL-Home
or either dommel which you have right now : http://lianka.schedom-europe.net/produc ... urfen.html
I wouldn't go with belgacom if i were you since they're quite pricey. Anyways let us know what you're gonna do  You could always opt for telenet which is cable and you'll get your promised speeds using cable. Quite expensive tho as i've mentioned before. Anyways cheers mate.

€ 30,15/month/ volume 200 GB / downloadspeed 20 Mbps (vdsl2)

you won't be able to order it online but you can always order it by contacting belgacom -> 0800 22 800

Thx for the info Callum, much appreciated.
My wife just reminded me that we tried to get Belgacom TV etc and did that test but it was not available for our area.
I just did the test now and it works! so i presume this means i can get Vdsl!
So, im off to do a bit of comparing now.

Many thanks to everyone.

Anything for a fellow brit heh. Anyways yes it should mean that vdsl is available. Goodluck with all of it.
Btw don't forget you might still have a contract with dommel? You haven't mentioned that. You'll have to do that one out if so.
If it has expired then great lol ;p

The Generation promotion (€ 30,15/month first year) is not valid anymore, but you can still order "Generation Internet" at the "normal" price (e.g. € 35,15/month).

Philippe.

I've ordered belgacom generation this month and the 30.15 eur is still indicated on the letter that I have received from belgacom

When you plan on getting Belgacom Internet, you should keep in mind there is no guarantee that you'll be connected to the internet via VDSL2. When I ordered Comfort (12 / 1 Mbps), I was first connected through ADSL (with a 3.3 Mb-profile). I had to make quite some calls with the Belgacom helpdesk, had to get myself a Bbox2 (free of charge, ofcourse), before I could enjoy VDSL2-speeds.

The only guarantee that you'll enjoy VDSL2-speeds, is to get a VDSL2-only product with Scarlet (One=Television+VOIP+fixed internet), EDPnet (VDSL Home) or Dommel (Speedconnect/+).

Another thing you'll have to bear in mind, is that when you order VDSL2 internet with EDPnet and Dommel, you'll have to buy a Sagem modem with a one-time fee of 139 euro, which is quite expensive. Unless, ofcourse, you already have a Sagem modem or Belgacom branded Bbox2 modem (you can check ebay, sometimes they offer cheap modems there). These are the only modems allowed on the VDSL2-network (they're almost the same on the inside).

Dommel is an expensive provider, especially when you don't download a lot.

If you have more questions on (fixed) internet plans and pricings, I'll be glad to be of service to you. I think I have a clear eye on telecomproducts in Belgium. :p

I was just about to order with EDPnet and I thought I'd drop by to see if anyone else posted some useful info,
I have canceled my current Dommel account, so by October I need a new ISP.
139EUR for a router seems mental to me, but then again, so do data limits! :)
Anyway, thanks for the input everyone, maybe i should go with Belgacom and get ready for helpdesk warfare.

cheers!
