what you cannot know of course is that I am living and working in a loft-type environment. There are no cupboards to be found here; and the basement is so far away that you would a wifi-base station that would burn the brains of the entire building :)

Unfortunately, these guys are like Microsoft. Every time they try to fix a security hole, a new one pops up. The very same issue dates back to February 2014; and there is enough reason to pustulate that they have problems with the architecture overall

It is true that the Fritzbox is said to be working "normally"; at least as claimed by EDPnet. However, the router has tremendous security issues that are not apt to be solved any time soon (see here: http://www.spiegel.de/netzwelt/gadgets/fritzbox-avm-warnt-vor-angriffen-auf-dsl-router-a ...

It seems I have not made myself clear; let me try again.

1. My present modem is indeed not vector-friendly; so Belgacom put me on the fallback profile
2. None of the modems on the Belgacom whitelist are feasible for me; for various reasons (mostly esthetics)

Sorry for posting in English; my Flemish is not up to standard ....

I wonder if someone amongst you has experience with routers/modems that are not on the Belgacom certified list. Is it really true that there is not one modem that will work with speeds higher than the Belgacom "fallback profile ...
